Lament

A collaborative recital and digital subscription with laments from sacred texts.

Project Overview

"Lament: A Journey From Grief to Hope" will be a collaborative recital, delivered both live and through a digital subscription, with a primary focus on the importance of lamenting. This recital will comprise of ten reflective "chapters," each incorporating different types of poems and laments from scripture. Additionally, I will perform a musical composition, which will be uploaded to either YouTube or Vimeo. Each of these "chapters" will be digitally accessible for subscribers.

In this era of unparalleled challenges, including global pandemics, disease, humanitarian crises, personal tragedies, and a looming mental health crisis, the urgency for collective mourning and healing is undeniable. Unfortunately, in our present era, the much-needed time for reflection and grief has been hijacked by everyday distractions, social media, constant noise, scandals, and political strife.

Music plays a very important role in healing. Classical music in particular requires much from us; attention, thoughtfulness, understanding, and imagination. But in an overworked and weary society, forms of entertaining that edify and renew the human spirit are of utmost importance. The beauty of music has proven time and time again to be necessary for a myriad of reasons including relaxation, improved mental health, increased cognitive activity and much more. We need music to point us to something and someone beyond who and what we can see.

In order for success for this project to be achieved, partnership with underwriters, sponsors and donors is requested. The live performance will be completed by mid-2024, and the recording project is expected to be completed by 2025. All donations are tax-deductible through my fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas. Funds will be used to pay extra musicians, audio/visual engineer, venue rental, and compensation for time and talent. Thank you for your consideration!
